Shayne’s Philosophy

“When I began as the winemaker at Toca Madera Winery five years ago I was given the freedom to make the kind of wines I want to make. Wines that reflect the distinctive taste and character of the grapes grown in our vineyard, not the taste of concentrates or tannin additives that often masquerade as good wine-making. I grow the grapes and make wine from those grapes. It’s amazing. Come taste for yourself.”

Virgin Soil and Rolling Hills of Toca Madera

Toca Madera Winery was founded to share our love of wine making and fine wines with our friends and neighbors in the Central Valley. Our vineyard includes red and white Rhone variety grapes (Syrah, Mouvedre, Grenache, Viognier, Marsanne), Malbec, Tempranillo, Muscat, Zinfandel and Alicante. Our diverse mix of warm-weather wine grapes was specially selected to create unique blends of estate wines for the sophisticated palate. The location of the vineyard is special, too.  We are at The Head of the Madera Wine Trail, where Road 36 joins Avenue 9 in Madera, California just north of Fresno.

Our vineyard was planted in 2012 on virgin, fertile soil never previously planted with any vines, orchards or other crops. The rolling hills terrain of the vineyard is also unique in Madera County and reminiscent of vineyards in Napa and the Central Coast.

We are a locally owned and operated family business. We enjoy hosting local artists and musicians regularly on the weekends. The terraced garden behind the winery was designed with weddings and special events in mind, to allow guests to better enjoy the natural beauty of our vineyard. The 7,000 square foot winery building, which was built on the vineyard property in 2014, includes a large tasting room with 23-foot high ceilings and a beautiful panoramic view of the vineyard from the bar area.

Come visit us and enjoy an estate-grown wine tasting experience.
